Mendez Family

Just realised how very long it has been since we updated our blog. Sorry about that, life has been so hectic. Here are a couple of pictures from recent months. We all really enjoyed the snow. Ben loved sledging and building snow ports (no idea what they were but kept him entertained for hours You can see an example in this picture). Mikey took to the slopes like a penguin and cast himself off the hill on his belly, sliding all the way to the bottom and flapping his arms if he got stuck. I hope we have some more snow so I can film it this time.

Mikey is learning to talk and point and shake his head and all kinds of things. He loves dogs, thomas the tank engine (not again) and music of any kind. He also loves reading and will spend long periods of time sitting on the floor surrounded by books after pulling them all off the shelf, just reading them to himself. He understands most of what I say to him now. Here he is in this picture with sandwich bags around his feet because I hadn't bought him any snow boots yet but that is no longer the case.


Ben is into fighting (wrestling), playing on the CBeebies website, pirates, dinosaurs and cooking . Quite an eclectic mix for a 3 year old I think! He still loves to read and is doing well at recognising letters and their different sounds. This is heralding the end of me summarizing the pages of the stories I read to him, as he starts to notice that these are not the actual words.

We went to the beach and we went to the funfair!

Sorry haven't updated the blog for ages. No particular reason for that, just been busy. Here is Mikey in his all singing, all dancing baby activity centre.

Here I brought Mikey to help me wake up Ben from his daytime nap. You can see who looks the most awake!

Here are the latest photos of Ben and Mikey together. Mikey just got chickenpox but he only has a few spots and seems quite happy despite having it. He is a very smiley person and only cries if he is tired or hungry. What an angel.

Both boys have had chickenpox this month. Ben was first and got it worse than Mikey. Here he is looking sorry for himself and covered in spots.


But I invited some of his friends over who have already had chickenpox so he did have fun with them.

What mother could resist the lure to co-ordinate outfits? These are only semi-matching but its only a matter of time...

We are going to shorten his name to Mikey. Here are some pictures of Ben meeting Mikey for the first time. I thought that he wouldn't be very interested but he ran right past me wanting to see his brother and he has been so kind and gentle with him and is learning how to touch him softly and not to jump on him etc!

We are so happy that the newest member of our family, Michael Luis Mendez arrived on Tuesday 9th September weighing 5lb 9oz.

His name means 'Who is like God? Renowned in battle'! Something to live up to. Mind you with an older brother that could come in useful!

He was born just eleven minutes after arriving in hospital - a bit too close to being born in the car for our liking. But a speedy delivery meant that I recovered quickly and Omar, Michael and myself were able to enjoy a first peaceful afternoon just the three of us in a nice room at the home from home unit in our hospital.
